Expert Speech Therapy at Euro-Therapies
What to Expect in Speech Therapy
Initial Evaluation
- Need intake forms completed and prescription from PCP before evaluation
- The patient will arrive for the speech/language initial evaluation which will be scheduled for 60 minutes, however, may end sooner than the scheduled 60 minutes per patient tolerance and how long standardized testing takes.
- If the patient cannot tolerate a full 60-minute evaluation, the evaluation will take place over 2, 30 minute sessions.
- If child’s insurance requires auth for speech, the child will have to go on hold until the authorization is returned and approved.
- If the child’s insurance does not require authorization, the child can attend speech therapy sessions for the next scheduled session within the same week of the evaluation or the following week.
- Parents/family are encouraged to be present in the therapy room for the initial evaluation or at least for the parent/caregiver interview portion of the evaluation (~15 min).
- Parents/family are required to complete all intake paperwork prior to arriving to initial evaluation.
Therapy Sessions
- Therapy sessions will be scheduled from 30-45 minutes 2-3 times per week per patient’s plan of care.
- Therapy sessions may be ended 5 minutes early to allow for transitions in/out of the therapy room and to allow for any maladaptive behaviors during transitions.
- Therapy sessions will comprise of 1:1 therapy with child/clinician, parent training/education, co-treating within other services (if allowed by prior approval from insurance), and education on home programming.
- Parents/family will be encouraged to wait in the lobby during treatment sessions unless child is under the age of 2 or the child demonstrates maladaptive behaviors that can be unsafe for clinician to be alone.
